How to Improve a Logo During a Redesign
Imagine a mechanic telling you he’s going to rebuild your car’s motor—but when you return, he presents you with a different car. You wouldn’t be very happy that he got rid of your car, rather than fixing the problem.
Yet many designers put their clients in exactly this scenario. When asked to redesign a logo, they totally scrap the old design and come up with something different. But in reality, they should find the original logo’s good qualities and improve them during the redesign.
Just as many traits can make a logo “work,” there are numerous ways to play up those good features in the redesign. To help you learn the ins and outs of this nuanced task, the team at Company Folders has rounded up the 7 most effective ways to redesign a logo.
RMK
STUDIO NEWWORK packaging design system for RMK body care line.
We developed new packaging design for body care products. Our keywords for designing bottles and packages include: modern; sincere; elegant; comfort; confident. We developed a monochromatic color palette and introduced color black for the logo and typographic elements. Our approach aims to combine a clean look with modern sensuality to appeal RMK’s sophisticated urban customers. We also developed and renewed packaging design of the cleansing product line.
Mosaicoon
Luca Fontana brand design for Mosaiccon a company which is managing the entire process of creating online video content, from concept to production, from distribution to tracking its performance.
The icon represents a mosaic of tiles that together form the “M†of Mosaicoon. The use of the RGB colors (red, green, blue) built immediate link with the world of video entertainment. The colorful tiles are not static but in an absolutely new and modern way they move within the “M†icon and in this way they give freedom of play and expression to the brand. The idea, in fact, is to create a logo “aliveâ€, able to change and evolve with the platform.
The Making of a Great Business Logo
Most logos look cool, but truly great logos move beyond appearance and into the realm of action. They inspire the target audience to engage with the company and create a recognizable symbol that acts as the “face” of a brand.
These corporate faces are surprisingly similar to human expressions. Just like we naturally view a smiling person is friendlier than a frowning person, consumers typically perceive a streamlined logo as more welcoming than an overwrought logo.
Potential customers also build their expectations of a brand based on its logo, yet often find the brand’s identity is different than the logo led them to believe. This mismatched branding reflects poorly on the company and can result in lost business.
Since logos constantly tell customers about a company—and customers make decisions based on these messages—it is the designer’s job to create a logo consistent with the brand’s identity. The design team at Company Folders has compiled these 7 essentials of logo design to help ensure your logo is sending all the right messages.
